GOOGLE@Schools

I attended the Google@school event last November 16, 2010 at William Shaw theatere, Dela Salle University. It's a great opportunity to learn more about Google’s hosted communication and collaboration tools for schools. The event gives the chance for participants to meet google engineers who work on those products.

NCITE 2010-tnx

Dear All,

Let me thank all of you in behalf of the national board for your attendance and support for the 8th NCITE held last October 20-23, 2010 at La Carmela de Boracay. A total of 325 attended the conference with 32 paper presenters and 16 poster presentation. Not even bagyong juan was able to stop all these participants from coming.

We met our target. We achieved our objectives. And on the side, we also enjoyed our stay there. The success of the conference wouldn't have been possible without your support. You know who you are and your valued contribution to the conference. but i would like to make special mention and thanks to the conference chair, Sir Dave Marcial. Congratulations. Job well done.

Again, thank you all. See you in Antipolo for our 13th National Convention come february 23-26, 2011!

NCITE 2010 (National Conference on Information Technology Education), Boracay, Malay, Aklan

OPENING REMARKS
Delivered by Dr. Randy S. Gamboa, PSITE President, during the NCITE 2010 October 21, 2010 in Boracay, Malay, Aklan

Mayor John Yap, to our Keynote speaker who will be properly introduced later, Aklan Catholic College OIC-vice president for academic affairs Engr. Cecilia S. Calizo, Naveen Asrani of SunOracle, conference chair sir Dave Marcial, my fellow PSITE national board members, paper presenters, invited speakers, our dear IT educators and students from different schools and universities, guests, ladies and gentlemen, Mayad-ayad nga agahon…magandang umaga sa inyong lahat ... good morning to all.

I am very much pleased with the turnout of participants during this 8th National Conference on IT Education or NCITE 2010. This is the first time that NCITE is held outside the school and still hosted by a school. This early I would like to thank Aklan Catholic College for sharing unselfishly their time and resources in hosting this event.

PSITE’s thrust for this year is coined as Peer-to- PEER. Peer-to- PEER not only refers to peer relationship but more importantly, an acronym which is P for Partnership, E for Education, E for Extension and Linkages and R for Research. This conference focuses more on Research. And I am glad to inform you that for this year, we noted increasing number of paper and research submissions. Since we cannot accept all researches for oral presentation, we are introducing for the first time in NCITE, poster presentations. This makes the NCITE 2010 full packed with information and educational materials.

Yesterday was considered an NCITE pre-conference. This is the second time that we are holding a pre-conference. But this is the first time that during the pre-conference, parallel sessions were held particularly on the topics on Software Engineering, Database Systems and Data Structures and Algorithms. You also heard yesterday, the methods of teaching in IT education that was presented by Dr. Jonathan Caballero. This is just the beginning of a more educational NCITE 2010.

One of the highlights of this conference is the presentation of the research manual. This is a first draft only. The research framework, which was adopted by CHED has already undergone a series of hearings and last month’s national public hearing. Hopefully, a Policies, Standards and Guidelines will be released soon.

Another highlight of the conference is the awarding of honorary membership to Naveen Asrani in recognition for his exceptional and unselfish services and support to the PSITE’s vision and mission. Through his incredible dedication, he profoundly helped uplift the quality in the teaching-learning process in IT Education in the Philippines.

On the last day of this conference, you will hear updates from CHED.

We are here to learn and also enjoy the beauty of the beaches of Boracay, considered as the no. 1 tourist destination in the Philippines. And with this I would like to reiterate my thanks to the Aklan Catholic College. Thank you likewise to the organizing committee led by sir Dave Marcial, PSITE VP-Visayas and the local organizing committee-PSITE Region 6 led by sir Joel de Castro for organizing this conference. To the officers and members of PSITE, thank you for your attendance. This conference would not have been possible of course without the support of our sponsors. Thank you to the sponsors for your continued support.

We are professionalizing not only the people but also the whole IT Education itself. We can only do this if we peers participate in this process. Have a fruitful day ahead and let us go Peer-to-peer.

May you all have a fruitful day ahead. Good morning.
