Director Leonida Calagui of CHED-ROXI, President Fr. Antonio Samson, Dr. Jimmy Caro – CSP President, Mr. Edwin Maranon – PSITE-VP Mindanao, Deans, Administrators, Faculty members from different schools and universities, our sponsors, ladies and gentlemen, good morning.
An English writer, Samuel Johnson, once wrote that “Knowledge is on two kinds. We know a subject ourselves, or we know we can find information upon it.” When we inquire into any subject, the first thing we have to do is to know what books have treated of it. This leads us to look at catalogues, and at the backs of books in libraries."
Ladies and gentlemen, we at PSITE XI are aware that IT educators in Mindanao are always searching for avenues where they can gain more knowledge. This is the reason why this MCITE is being held for five years now. Our theme is “Gearing up Towards a Sustainable IT Culture in Mindanao”. We have carefully selected papers for presentation and also invited great speakers who are unselfishly willing to share their knowledge and expertise. Our resource speakers and paper presenters came not only from Mindanao but also from all over the country. As what have done before, the speakers are given a slot of 45 minutes for their presentation, including open forum. I hope that you will actively participate in the discussions.
In addition, new technologies and products will be promoted by our sponsors. Let me thank Microsoft, Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company or PLDT, Globe Telecom/Innove, 3M, JEDI-SunMicrosystems, Hive All Visual & Lights Systems and UP-ITTC.
The Ateneo de Davao University, under the leadership of its President, Fr. Antonio Samson, through the endorsement of Mr. Edwin Maranon-CS division chair, has always been receptive and supportive to the activities and endeavors of PSITE XI. As a sign of gratitude, let’s give them a warm applause. The CHED, under the direction of Director Calagui, through the endorsement of its Education Supervisor II, Dr Maricar R. Casquejo, has also been with us and encouraging us to pursue the IT activities in Mindanao for the IT educators. They also deserve a round of applause. And to all of you who are here today, to take part in the conference, may this partly be what is listed in your catalogues where you can gain knowledge and find answers to your questions. May you also renew acquaintances and find new ones.
Have an educational and enjoyable two-day conference and may we be prepared for a sustainable IT culture in Mindanao.
